Gov. Jerry Brown Thursday vetoed legislation introduced earlier this year by then state Sen. Doug LaMalfa that would have provided firefighters at the state's inmate fire camps more detailed information about the prisoners they oversee.
Brown poured water on LaMalfa's proposed Senate Bill 1098 by returning it to the state Senate without his signature because he said there was no need for the law.
"This bill would require the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to provide all inmate classification, reclassification and readmission score sheets in its possession to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection personnel assigned to the conservation camp in which an inmate has been placed," Brown wrote in a brief letter to the California State Senate...
